Artificial grass is made out of resilient compounds like polypropylene, polyethylene, and nylon. Manufacturers add other compounds to incorporate different features into their products, like the UV-Inhibitors that help to extend the life of our turf products.

We’ve also introduced our own proprietary backing that is a hybrid of hole-punch and fully-permeable that we call “DUAL FLOW.” This helps to prevent flooding and pooling, and also helps to keep the grass blades dry and free from mildew. 

In addition, artificial grass drains pet urine quickly and effectively, preventing odors and keeping the turf clean and fresh. As a result, artificial grass is an ideal choice for any application where drainage is a concern.

Dirt: Artificial grass should not be installed directly on dirt. Dirt turns to mud when it rains and allows water to pool on the surface. It also isn’t solid enough to keep the turf in place and would develop lumps, divots, wrinkles, and more. An artificial grass installation is a delicate process that requires a few specific steps in order to be done correctly. 

The first thing that needs to be done is to create a base layer out of Class II road base and crushed limestone. This base needs to be level and compacted in order to provide a solid foundation and to help facilitate drainage before the artificial grass is installed on top of it. Once the base is prepared, the artificial grass can then be laid down, trimmed, and secured into place. The final step is to infill the artificial grass with silica sand infill or another infill material.

Concrete: Yes, artificial grass can be installed on concrete but the installation process differs significantly. Installing artificial grass on concrete requires less preparation, but we recommend using a drainage membrane to facilitate drainage and prevent flooding.

• Replenish infill annually
